This book did not come with a CD as my first book did. I do not know if that was reflected in the price, but that CD was used only less than a handful of times anyway as we preferred to discover practice videos on You-Tube. The pages in this book are very clear and the building of skills in each song is just appropriate, a gentle incline.

Good book
This was a good buy but I wish they included more volumes for the price. Probably would not have bought if it wasn’t a requirement for the class.

Great book and the best methodology ever!
I strongly recommend the Suzuki methodology! My son started with individual lessons, with instructors coming to our home. When he started with the Suzuki method, his abilities improvement were evident.I recommend the book and the method.

Stands the test of time
Our daughter is in her second year of violin lessons and the Suzuki book is recommended by her teachers, just as it was recommended by her father’s violin teachers a generation ago.

Great value
My daughter is almost finished with Suzuki Book 1 and she is very excited about moving on to Book 2. Great value on Amazon!

Technically accurate.
Technically accurate. No complaints about that. But I heard that the artist was convicted of harassment. Kinda a turn off, but the songs recorded are good and accurate.

Guided Purchase, but a Hit for the Budding Violinist in our Family
Bought this book for my son (age 9) at his violin teacher’s direction. He seems to love it and to enjoy trying to work ahead in it, too. He prefers it to a couple of other violin instruction books he’s had in the past.

My daughter is not using this book yet. I bought this book with volume one because I was overzealous :). But she likes the volume 1 so far. I’ll change my review sometimes in the future when she starts using it.

Great series
The Suzuki books are great for the beginning violinist. The instructions are clear (if not a little wordy, as there are instructions given in multiple languages throughout the book) and the pieces are of an appropriate level–not too challenging but challenging enough to be interesting.I started playing the violin 5 months ago and despite having zero experience with the instrument, I found it relatively easy to learn with the help of these books.

Book is as Presented
I don’t doubt that the other reviewer may have received the “older” version of this music book. I just received it and it is the revised edition with the “colorful” cover. My experience with Amazon since its inception has been mostly good – if what I had received was not what was presented on the site, I’m sure Amazon would correct the problem.

Great for Technique
I use the Suzuki books along with Essential Elements. I teach and I also take lessons. My instructor recently took me back to Suzuki books 1 and 2 for bowing technique. It’s perfect.

Our thoughts on Suzuki and Volume 2
I hope this review helps some other students, young or older. My seven year old daughter has been studying Suzuki violin since she was five years old, and we are big fans of the method. Our teacher is very knowledgeable about the Suzuki method, and we have had a number of discussions with her about the differences between the various books. Apparently, the first book is more dense and requires more time to get through than the other volumes, including this one (Volume 2). I think a student’s best bet is to take his or her time and really master Volume 1, and then speed up once in Volume 2. You can short change yourself down the road by rushing through Volume 1.Overall, the books are clearly written and helpful in our lessons and practice. However, they shouldn’t be used in isolation. We have learned over the last few years that community is an important part of Suzuki. It is very valuable to play violin with other students and to be exposed to various teachers and workshops. Good luck!

Challenging at times, but worth completing.
My violin teacher uses the Suzuki method of teaching, so upon her request, I picked this up.Now I have completed this book, and thoroughly enjoyed the pieces (some of which are recognizable classics) and more demanding technique this book offers. The pieces vary in style, tempo, rhythms, and bowings enough to make you feel much more comfortable with the violin. I also found practice suggestions in this book to be both helpful in general and relevant to the actual music in the book. Some of the exercises include specific bowings, positions, a few string crossing exercises, scales, tricky fingerings, and much more.Although I believe it really depends on the teacher and not necessarily this book, I notice significant improvement in skill level on the violin upon starting this book to its completion and my violin teacher says the same thing. As such, I highly recommend this book.

Great book, no CD
This book and the method are great. My son really enjoys playing violin and I appreciate hearing actual music. 😉 The only negative here that I noticed were references to listening to a CD – perhaps this is supposed to be a separate purchase (and of course one can find great videos on YouTube), but it would’ve been nice to have it included right in with the book.

Easy to use, easy to afford
My 3 young violinists have used these books for years and will continue to do so. It’s nice that they are so affordable, as they become well worn by the time once child gets through a book;)

Books
I had hoped there might be a finger location chart with these books. I will be trying to teach a 3 year old how to play. I can read music, but I’ve not played the violin before. Had hoped to learn first then teach her. I’ll figure it out. Still good books for the beginner.
