    One of the Very Best…

For learning the bass as a “genuine beginner”, the Hal Leonard Books are at the top of list! I also purchased a couple of books after buying the Hal Leonard book; but there is simply no comparison. The lessons are methodically laid out to build skills; explanations are clear, and the CD to play along with is wonderful. My learning curve has been greatly enhanced…highly recommend this learning tool. The guitar center near my home use the Hal Leonard Bass Method books to teach bass lessons.

Not as good as the 1st

For beginning bass players, Hal’s 1st book is a must. It is simple and great at the same time. However, even after you master the 1st book, you won’t be able to make a jump to the 2nd book so easily. It seems a this point a lot of information not covered in the 1st book is assumed and learned. I found the exercises confusing. I already knew the C Major scale by heart long before I got to this book along with the other scales. However, I found the number exercises located after the c major scale to be confusing. The book just doesn’t eloborate where it needs to. Very disappointed in this book. It looks like I’ll have to get the rest of my lessons from another source.

    Great bass book

Leads you through learning at the right pace with great play along tracks included. Natural progression from volume one. Recommend for beginner bass players.

  5. Mark Chyna

the only way to learn how to play bass

Hal Leonard books are very well organized and give you step by step instruction to learn your instrument while getting the fundamentals down along with avoiding bad habits. Make sure to get the manual with the audio CD- it is indispensable!

Warning, two version of this book. This one doesn’t have the CD

There are two versions of this book. ISBN 079356378 comes with the CD. ISBN 079356378X does not come with the CD. Don’t make the same mistake I did. I wanted the CD and had to return this book and reorder the correct version. Minus one star for Amazon packaging this in a special with Book 3 which comes with a CD while this one doesn’t. Very misleading.

Thank you Hal Leonard for making instruments fun

I’ve been playing bass for about a year now and these books have been “instrumental” in my learning.
