FAQ
How old does my child have to be to start taking music lessons?
For younger beginner students aged 4-7, we highly recommend starting with our Intro To Piano class. For more information on this program, click here: https://sparkschoolofmusic.opus1.io/w/keynotes
For private lessons, we have a variety of options available for students aged 5 and above, including piano, violin, viola, and ukulele. However, for students aged 5-6, we suggest starting with a trial first to determine if private lessons are the right fit for them.
For students aged 7 and above, we offer a broader range of instruments such as guitar, bass guitar, drums, and voice lessons. If your child doesn’t have a specific instrument preference, we always recommend starting with piano first to establish a solid musical foundation.
Do you offer instrument rentals?
Yes we do! We offer instrument rentals for keyboards, guitars, and ukulele.
Do I need to stay for my child’s lesson?
For children under the age of 5, we ask parents to remain in the lobby for their child’s lesson. Otherwise, you are welcome to drop off your child and return a few minutes before their lesson is done! If you would like to sit in on your child’s music class, we always have an open door policy and you are free to sit in at any time.
Do you have recitals or performances?
Yes we do! For music students, we have two big recitals every year (typically one in the winter, and one in late spring). We also offer smaller performance opportunities throughout the year as well.
How much do music lessons cost?
Music lessons cost less than you many think! Options start as low as $30.75 per class. You can request more info by clicking here.
How long does it take to learn an instrument?
There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn an instrument. With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.
What is the best instrument to start on?
If your child doesn’t have a preference of what instrument to learn, we recommend they start on the piano because notes are visually laid out from highest to lowest. This makes it easy to understand, and it requires the least amount of coordination and finger strength. Other instruments such as the drums and guitar require a significant amount of coordination and strength such as holding down the strings or using different limbs to play a drum beat.
I don’t have any musical background or ability; can I still help my child practice?
Yes. Even if you don’t have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day, the student will progress. Many parents occasionally sit in on their child’s music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioning their hands.
When is the best time to start?
The short answer is NOW! The best time to learn an instrument is as young as possible.
